CORE COURSES
DESCRIPTION
Pre-Beginner
This course is designed for students who have no previous experience with the English language.
It introduces basic vocabulary, such as numbers, countries, colors, family, food, places of work, etc. it also introduces simple grammar structures including the verb to-be, the simple present, the simple past, the present continuous, and the future.
Beginner
Designed for beginner students who have had some previous experience with the English language.
It includes important vocabulary for everyday communication, such as personal information, jobs, daily routines, etc. It also presents basic grammar structures with strong emphasis on the use of the past tense, prepositions of time, adverbs of frequency, the future with “going to”, comparatives and superlatives, and an overview of the present perfect.
Pre-Intermediate
Designed for students who have a limited command of the English language and who wish to communicate more effectively.
It includes vocabulary for describing people and places, clothes, animals, health and lifestyles, and vacations, among others. It provides a comprehensive review and consolidation of the simple present, present continuous, simple past, the future, and the present perfect. It introduces the use infinitives vs. ing-forms, the use of modals, the first and second conditionals, and an overview of the past perfect.
Intermediate
Designed for students who have a moderate command of the English language and who are ready for more complex grammatical structures.
It includes more advanced vocabulary for enhanced communication, such as shopping, travel, transportation, compound nouns, etc. In this level, the student will review all previously learned verb tenses and will learn the use of the passive form, the third conditional, reported speech, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs, among others.
High-Intermediate
Designed to advance students from an intermediate to an advanced command of the English language by consolidating
previous knowledge and focusing on improving accuracy and fluency. It includes more sophisticated vocabulary which covers a variety of topics, such as science, fashion, the media, business & advertisement, illnesses and treatments, etc. After a review of the present perfect, the students will learn the use of the future perfect, unreal conditionals, past modals, “used to”, and clauses of contrast and purpose, among others.
Advanced IEP
This course is designed for the advanced student of English who needs to improve accuracy and fluency.
In this level, students will have an opportunity to practice a range of complex grammar structures by exploring challenging topics that stimulate communication. The students will be engaged in a series of activities that feature the use of natural language in a variety of situations.
Advanced Academic Skills
Proficient/Advanced. This course focuses on providing advanced students with the academic skills necessary to be successful
in a program of higher education. It integrates all language skills, but focuses on advanced conversation, pronunciation, listening and reading comprehension, essay writing, and grammar practice. Materials include a compilation of relevant, up-to-date articles, audio-visual resources, writing prompts, and interactive online activities, including research projects.
Advanced Business Skills
This is a two-part preparatory course (2 sessions of 12-week each) for international business executives, professionals and
business administration students who are or will be conducting business in the global market. Students will improve upon existing business language skills by developing specific workplace vocabulary and enhancing presentation and public speaking, through professional communication methods, while fostering an understanding of how the student can apply these professional language skills to succeed in their chosen fields.
Advanced Grammar Skills
This course is designed to build upon existing knowledge in order to enable students to improve upon their understanding
and use of English grammar structures and how to employ them effectively for improved accuracy. The course focuses on developing both students’ awareness of the key nuances and patterns of English grammar and control of the form and meaning of highly advanced grammar structures, with particular emphasis on those used in academic and professional writing projects.
Literature and Composition
This course is designed to enable students to analyze literature, including poetry, short stories, novels/novellas, and plays.
Students will develop an understanding of literary themes, devices and terminology to enable them to begin to express critiques and analysis of literature by reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works. Students will write literary analysis papers as well as other essays and will present on their topics for the class. Students will also be engaged in creative writing.
American Language and Culture
This course is designed for advanced students. The course will focus on critical thinking, assessing information, comparing and debating
different points of view, brainstorming solutions, and being a questioning reader and it will also fine tune student’s writing skills with essays, research papers and projects, discussion boards. This course will help students to prepare for the Florida Civil Literacy exam, as they will learn about American government, Supreme Court cases, the amendments and how the courts relate to these, while also improving vocabulary skills related to American government, U.S. history and culture, through civics studies.
Intercultural Communication Skills
This course provides a comprehensive exploration of interpersonal skills, including verbal, non-verbal or visual communication,
written communication, active listening, empathy, cultural awareness and strengthening one’s emotional intelligence. The course will emphasize the role that effective communication plays in developing positive relationships, both personally and professionally, resolving conflicts and achieving personal and professional success, and how interpersonal skills may contribute directly to happiness.
Advanced Writing Skills
This program focuses on continuing to provide advanced students with continued practice in fine-tuning
their advanced writing skills. The Advanced Writing Skills course is designed for non-native English speakers who wish to refine and enhance their writing skills at an advanced level. The course focuses on developing students' ability to express complex ideas clearly and coherently in written English. Students will engage in various writing tasks, including essays, research papers, and creative writing, while learning advanced writing techniques and strategies.
Speech and Presentation
This course is designed to help non-native speakers of English develop confidence and fluency in public
speaking for professional settings. The course emphasizes audience adaptation, support and organization of ideas; while considering effective delivery techniques. Students will learn how to organize and structure speeches, use persuasive language, and engage audiences effectively., Students will refine pronunciation, intonation, and delivery skills. They will also practice impromptu speaking, formal presentations, and workplace communication. By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate with greater confidence, clarity and professionalism in any public speaking situation.

English Conversation and Accent Reduction
Provides further speaking, listening comprehension¸ and pronunciation practice with some background in English, mainly interested in
enhancing oral communication. The student will develop effective speaking and listening comprehension, through exhaustive oral practice and the acquisition of key phonetic rules, and by working on pitch, rhythm, linkage and sentence stress and intonation. The use of updated technologies plays an important role in the improvement of the student’s conversational skills and fluency. Participation on social media encourages the use of the language.
TOEFL Preparation Course*
Aims at preparing international student who need to take the TOEFL Test, which many US colleges and universities mandate.
The program has two main objectives, the first part will provide a comprehensive review of areas such as, grammar structures, listening and reading comprehension, with an emphasis in speaking and essay writing for the new TOEFL exam. The second part of the course provides an overview of the exam and test taking strategies, as well as an exhaustive practice of sample TOEFL tests. *Note: Level 6 admission to TOEFL must be approved by the School Director, based on grades/performance

Business English I*
Develop essential skills to communicate effectively in the business world: writing, emails, and presentations.
Business English I and II*
These are preparatory courses for international business executives, professionals, and business administration students and
prospect students who are or will be conducting business in the global market. Emphasis is made on the lexicon of business, communications techniques, strategies and skills needed to succeed in business. The language is used in context deriving from audio and video programs, and excerpts from business journals and magazines. Tasks include drafting of business correspondence and style and in both oral and written communications. The incorporation of audio-visual techniques to presentations, conference calls and the use of social media, are great tools for business students.
Legal English*
Law school and legal skills present difficulties for all students, even those who are native speakers. If English is not a student's native language,
that student experiences additional challenges. Most students taking law classes are subjected to a new vocabulary. “Legalese” or “lawspeak” is an academic skill that even native speakers must study to learn, if they are to be an effective member of the legal profession, as many of the skills related to completing law school successfully are language skills. These include writing, reading, listening, analytic and oral presentation skills. The Legal English course focuses on giving the student the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in a legal environment, with specific focus on legal vocabulary, oral and written argumentation, public speaking, and an overview of the American legal system.
Medical English*
This course is designed for non-native English with previous healthcare training who seek employment in a U.S. medical profession, or who
are already employed and in need of improving their knowledge of medical terminology and language of interaction with patients and other health professionals in a hospital or clinical setting.
The focus of the course is medical language in both written, interpretative and spoken forms, and the culture and context of health care delivery and services in the United States. Students will practice a wide variety of reading, writing, listening and speaking activities to enable them to reach a high level of linguistic ability and cultural knowledge of American health careers

This course is designed for non-native English speakers who are working or planning to work in the hospitality industry. The course aims to
